Body protectors are designed to offer protection to a rider by absorbing the high levels of energy created when falling off, being kicked or stood on by a horse. The British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) body protector standard sets the benchmark for safety and is recommended by all leading riding organisations and disciplines requiring the use of body protectors. Tabard (put on over the head with fastenings on the shoulder and done up around the waist) and zip-fronted are the most common, but there are a number of new styles emerging such as moulded garments, as technology continues to develop
Level 3 – Purple Label
Protectors providing a level of protection that is considered appropriate for normal horse riding, competitions and for working with horses. Protectors to this level should prevent minor bruising that would have produced stiffness and pain, reduce soft tissue injuries and bruising, and prevent a limited number of rib fractures. Level 3 body protectors should still be worn whenever an air vest is worn, whatever the activity
